The same screen looks different depending on who you are.
What you can do on Shovel depends on who you are in a given universe. Here's the shape of it:
Visitor (signed out) :
Read public stories, universes, wikis, and posts. Any action button opens the sign-in box.
Signed-in user :
Write stories; like, bookmark, and comment; follow and join universes; create a universe; edit your profile.
Member :
Everything above, plus vouch ▲ on stories. (Posting, proposing, and the rest depend on the role you're given.)
Collaborator / Moderator :
Whatever their role grants: create posts, create or review proposals, manage the wiki, verify stories, manage members. Sees extra tabs.
Owner :
Everything, automatically, including Settings and the Danger Zone.
Important: permissions are per-role, not a fixed ladder. A "collaborator" only has what their specific role grants. By default, a new member can create posts and create proposals (nothing more) until an owner gives them more.
