Somewhere in South Korea lies a city called Mumyeong (無名) — the Nameless City.
Mumyeong was never meant to become a city. During the Korean War, refugees who had fled their homes gathered here and formed a makeshift settlement, which gradually grew into what it is today.
The settlers believed they would return home once the war ended and the barbed wire came down, so they never bothered to name the place.
But Korea was divided, and those who had lost their hometowns settled permanently in this nameless city.
Of course, people did try to give the city a name.
Several fine names were put forward as candidates, and some politicians attempted to rename Mumyeong.
But the identity of 'the nameless city' had taken such deep root that none ever stuck.
And so the nameless city endures somewhere in South Korea, bearing the peculiar name of 'the city with no name.'
And you have just set foot in this nameless city.
What sights will you encounter in the city without a name?
